Self-discipline, Maturity and Focus through Traditional Kung Fu
There is no better way to nurture the growth of our youth than through the practice of martial arts. Kung Fu builds physical strength, balance, coordination and endurance, as well as self-discipline, maturity and focus. At Lin’s Martial Arts Academy, young students are led into the world of Kung Fu with a gentle hand and a firm conviction.
Children’s Kung Fu at Lin’s Martial Arts
Kung Fu can be very enjoyable for children, as well as educational and beneficial to their health. Children learn the basics of Kung Fu, empty hand forms and techniques, but don’t get introduced to weapons until they’re old enough to graduate to “regular” kung fu class.
Many of our children have grown into amazing young adults, and have stayed to train for years.

Anatomy of a Class
Classes follow a set sequence which allows the students to know what to expect. The sequence also ensure classes to operate smoothly.
- Stretching
- Tumbling/Jumping (alternates every week)
- Kicking the bags
- Running Laps and Aerobic Techniques
- Block Practice to Strengthen Arms
- Non-contact Sparring
- Learning and Demonstrating Forms

Non-contact Sparring
Sparring is an essential part of any martial arts practice. Sparring gives the student opportunity to test the knowledge acquired, as well as improve reflexes and build confidence. Lin’s Martial Arts Academy uses a “non-contact” method of sparring that does not require the student to purchase protective equipment. Sparring here is a supportive environment, where students can safely learn how to interact with an opponent.

A Lifelong Journey Starts Here
As one of the world’s most dynamic martial arts, Kung Fu is a lifelong journey. Kung Fu develops the student both physically and mentally with forms and training techniques that have been handed down from teacher to student for thousands of years. Over 1500 years ago, the Shaolin Monks found that Kung Fu training was much more than a fighting system for self-defense. Instead, this mind-body training could even be developed to a spiritual level, and had far reaching physical and mental benefits.
Many Other Opportunities

Kung Fu students receive a “report card” that lists all the Kung Fu forms they learn. Once they have practiced a form sufficiently to pass their test on it, the Sifu will sign the report card for that form. Because Kung Fu is a life-long endeavor where the student is constantly challenged to exceed their limits, there are no belts or ranks. Students simply line up in order of their seniority at the school.

One of the best ways to support your child is by encouraging consistent class attendance. To see the long-term benefits that martial arts provides, students must work consistently week after week. In addition, students are most successful when they practice outside of class. Parents can assist by working with their child to develop good practice habits.
